Darla and Anna at the Phoenix Zoo on New Year's Eve

We braved a trip to the zoo. Disney Radio had a special event and the place was absolutely packed. But the weather was perfect and we had a good time.

The trip to Anthem and Prescott

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Darla, Annaleigh and Jared in a Christmas sleigh

A few months ago, we planned a nice trip to Prescott to see their holiday parade and tree lighting. As Darla and I planned the day, we decided that we would do some shopping at the Anthem outlet mall – even though it would make the day a little hectic.

We figured that if we showed up at the mall at 9am and left at 11:30am, we’d still have time to make the parade at 1pm.

We got to the mall at 9:45, which worked out because it didn’t actually open until 10. (It’s generally a good idea to check to see when a place opens before you go there.) We spent more time there than we had planned and ended up eating lunch there too. We totally missed the parade and didn’t get to Prescott until after 3pm.

Darla was feeling horrible by the time we got to Prescott. We’re guessing something she ate at the outlet mall’s food court didn’t agree with her.

Because she was feeling sick, we were only able to stay in Prescott for about 30 minutes. We got some good pictures and had fun, but it definitely wasn’t the day we planned.

Photos from the trip are below.

Anna has learned our real names

Anna looks for Darla in Target

I made the mistake of teaching Anna her parents’ real names a few days ago. I thought it might be a good idea in case we ever got separated and someone was helping her look for us. Instead, she now uses these names to get our attention. Check out the video to see her in action.

Mellentine family on Thanksgiving

We have a lot to be thankful for.

We had three days filled with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. On Thursday, we played bocce ball for the first time and we so have to get that game.

It’s Halloween and Anna is a ladybug

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

We had bought an awesome giraffe costume for Anna in September, but by the time Halloween rolled around she had outgrown it. We ended up trading it in for the ladybug costume you see above – which is still pretty cute.

Anna couldn’t keep up with her cousin Abby while we were trick-or-treating. Whenever Abby got ahead of her, Anna would yell, “Wait, Abby!” It was hilarious! Here’s a photo of Anna chasing after Abby.

Schnepf Farms: A dusty old time

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Mellentine family at Schnepf Farms

We visited Schnepf Farms (little-known fact: “Schnepf” is German for “difficult to spell and pronounce”) for the first time with some great friends of ours. The dust was so horrible that it ruined most of our pictures. We did have a good time, but we just don’t have good pictures to prove it.

Anna and the hoop

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Anna playing with her hoop

Anna has been begging us all day to get a “hoop”.  I gave her a baseball after our weekend away from her and she’s been wanting to play basketball with it.

Basketball isn’t a foreign game to her.  Our chiropractor has a hoop mounted up high and Anna wants to dunk every time we go there.

After work today, we went out and bought Anna a Nerf hoop and mounted it to her crib.  We nearly had to force her to eat dinner because she wanted to go to her room and play with it.

Anna's first baseball game

Anna had lots of fun at her first baseball game ever. The timing was a little off because it was her nap time when the game started, but she was happy for most of it. She looks pretty tired in the photo above (taken after the game). Click it to see the rest of the photos.

Anna tries on hats (part 2)

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Darla, Anna and I spent some time at Old Navy today and while Darla was trying on clothes, I was trying out hats on Anna. There was a much larger selection than the last time we tried on hats. We ended up buying the pink baseball hat (#4) for her.

Long weekend in San Diego

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Darla got a sweet deal on a San Diego resort, so we spent the weekend there. We had planned on staying at the resort and going to the beach, but the crappy weather changed our minds. We went to Sea World on Saturday and Anna loved it.

The vacation so far…

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Canada is cold.  We’ve been told that it’s the coldest winter in 20+ years.  Lucky us!

Anyway, we’re surviving and trying to keep warm.  We’ve met lots of family for the first time, including Darla’s birth dad and his wife.  There are plenty of pictures in the Flickr set.

Anna and the pink hair

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Sick of having old men think Anna is a boy (although, their wives often correct them), we decided to dye her hair to a more girlie color. It’s not ideal, but it should keep them from saying “What a big boy!” and “How old is he?”.

Anna and the pink hair

For those with kids that are thinking about dyeing their hair, there is a kid-safe, no-tears brand of hair dye called Loopflairs. That’s what we used.
