Anna and the pink hair

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Sick of having old men think Anna is a boy (although, their wives often correct them), we decided to dye her hair to a more girlie color. It’s not ideal, but it should keep them from saying “What a big boy!” and “How old is he?”.

Anna and the pink hair

For those with kids that are thinking about dyeing their hair, there is a kid-safe, no-tears brand of hair dye called Loopflairs. That’s what we used.

I was doing some yard work yesterday when I came across an unusual insect – the praying mantis.  I took a few closeup shots of the little guy and wanted to share.

Now that we're back…

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Things are slowly starting to get back to normal since we’ve come back from our trip. There are lots of great pictures from our trip.

Shortly after we got back, we took a family trip to the zoo with my brother’s family. Click on the photo to see the entire set.

Annaleigh did very well on her first plane ride. She was quiet and happy until the last 10 minutes or so. She was having a problem popping her ears on our descent, so she was pretty fussy. Once we landed, she was just fine. A lot of people complimented us on how well-behaved our daughter was. It was a huge relief to Darla and I. Both of us had been stressing out about this for the last couple weeks.

And then the princess rested

Yes, we put her in the chair. No, we didn’t buy it. Maybe when she’s older and can sit up on her own without falling over.

Anyway, there are lots of new photos in the Flickr gallery.

Okay, okay… so I've been busy…

It was then that I started feeling awkward

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Darla and I went to San Diego for one main reason – to help our friend prepare for proposing to his girlfriend. When the moment came, Darla and I were right in the middle of it. I thought it would be a fantastic idea to take pictures. It was a great time, but very, very awkward. The photo below is not staged.

What happens in Vegas gets spilled on the blog

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I was in Las Vegas, Nevada (not to be confused with Las Vegas, Kansas) for the past few days. I was there on business, meeting people from corporate and our affiliates. The meetings were great, but there was a lot of fun “after hours”.

When I checked in to Treasure Island on Sunday, I was told that I had two reservations. I told the guy something like, “I’m only one person, so you could probably cancel one of those.” But apparently he felt obligated to upgrade my room to a panoramic room – two walls had windows – overlooking the strip on the 19th floor. I distinctly remember telling him that I would prefer a lower floor, but whatever. Anyway, the upgrade sounded great until about 9 p.m. the first night. There’s some pirate show that was very loud that was 19 floors beneath my window. The pirate show, I was told, was just a bit of clothing away from a porn show. I can’t remember the name of the show… something about sirens. Anyway, I didn’t go see the show but I did hear it while I was working in my room. I just reminded myself of a Modest Mouse song, but I’ll spare you.

Monday night, after our meetings, we were treated to a great six course Italian meal at Canaletto’s restaurant at the Venetian. After the meal, we went as a group to see the Blue Man Group. I sat in the fourth row – about 10 feet from the stage – and it was amazing. I won’t go into all the details, but it was one of the best shows I’ve seen. Darla and I are seeing them in Phoenix in February. After the show, we came across one of the performers in the lobby and I had my picture taken with him.

After the show, one of the corporate project managers bought a few of us gelato and we walked around for a while. We went back to our hotel’s casino and I watched people lose – and sometimes win – their money.

My greatest accomplishment on the trip is that I didn’t gamble one bit. For those of you that know me, you know that it was not an easy task.

I spent my plane ride back talking with a nice gentleman about life. We talked the entire time sharing experiences, etc. It was a great trip, but I’m so glad to be back.

A week away

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Oh my goodness.

Darla and I had a fantastic time in New Jersey last week. We stayed with my sister-in-law’s family, visited New York, spent time at the beach, and rested a lot. It was great.

Everyone talks down about New Jersey. I don’t know why; it’s so beautiful. Check out the gallery of photos we took. (Warning: 235 photos could take a long time to view)

We stayed in a beachhouse for most of the time. Check out this short video that I made, using 15-second clips from my cell phone.

Where have I just been?

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

It’s been difficult to get the time to write lately, so I take pictures instead. I did not, however, take any of these pictures.

Furious D was in town. It was probably his last time he’ll visit here before he moves out here. you heard me right.

Anyway, we had lots of fun going to a wedding and camping in Flagstaff. We visited two lakes, Lake Mary and Mormon Lake, which by the way is false advertising. There were no mormons in, on or around the lake. Furious D also got creative and we took some portraits in the woods near Lake Mary. All-in-all, it was a good trip highlighted by me getting stung by a bee. nothing could have capped it off any better.

A nice night out

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

Darla and I had dinner at Red Robin the other night. For drinks, I ordered a freckled lemonade and Darla ordered a chocolate shake. That apparently translates into “the girliest drink” and “the manliest drink”, respectively.
